The Liverpool star is believed to have injured his knee during his country's pre-tournament training cup, and could require surgery in the coming days according to reports
by the daily mirror.
Uruguayan TV are reporting that the 27 year old had an MRI scan on Wednesday which revealed damage to the meniscus in the knee, with the team doctor deciding surgery was necessary.
Suarez's absence would be a major blow for the Celeste, with the striker a key figure in attack. Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan would be the men charged with taking up any slack should his injury be as bad as feared.
