Internship

Youth will acquire work experience and skills through the private sector and gain an opportunity to find a regular job or start their own enterprises.
Selection Process for Internships and Training

Creation of internships KEPSA is responsible for the generation of sufficient internship places within the sectors already identified, through the business membership organizations and corporate members.
Generating Awareness of the Internship Program KEPSA will promote the program as widely as possible, through MoYAS District Youth Offices and Officers, and the Media Owners Association, in order to generate awareness of the opportunities being offered.

The Application Process The application process entails the completion of an application form, either online through the GoK; KEPSA or MoYAS websites, or in a hard copy at the District Youth Offices (DYOs). Details for submission of the form will be provided on the application form. Advertisement will be made before the start of every cycle in the local dailies as well as through the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Once the application deadline has passed, KEPSA will review the applications to develop a pool of eligible interns based on the criteria above. The ID number will act as a unique identifier in most cases, to prevent multiple applications being submitted. When the number of applications exceeds the number of internships available, as is expected, the pool of beneficiaries will be selected from the pool of eligible applicants by a random selection process. KEPSA will ensure that the selection process is conducted in a transparent way by involvement of all key stakeholders.

 other internship opportunities:
Further, validation of the interns selected in the program will take place during the orientation module, where documentation verifying date of birth, Identification numbers, and proof of qualifications/education level will have to be provided.
Interns Selection and Placement Youth totaling at least 125% of the number of internships available for each internship cycle will be selected to participate in the two weeks of life skills training and orientation. The project plans to provide approximately 900 Internships in Nairobi, 400 in Mombasa and 135 in Kisumu per cycle respectively.
The application form specifies that only successful applicants will be contacted, although data regarding all applications will be retained in case of any complaints/clarifications being required. At the end of the orientation period, each applicant completing the life skills training will be interviewed by one or more employers, in an effort to match sector preferences of the youth with the educational requirements of employers.

The interviews will take place over a period of 4 weeks after Life skills module. Applicants not selected by employers will be returned to the pool for referral to other interviews and internships. Once all the internships have been assigned, those not chosen by any employer will be given completion certificates for their life skills training, but will not be eligible for future internship cycles.
Those not selected through the initial random selection process for participation in the life skills training however, may apply in a future internship cycle if they continue to meet all eligibility criteria.
Youth who have been successfully matched with an employer will be given details of their terms of engagement i.e. location; date and time to report; immediate supervisor etc.
